towers
amber
give of heat
as if the sand itself is a form of sunlight
compacted, hardened by years of toil
the walls
asif descended from the skies iridescent high blue
upon the structured and structureless skeletons of the red mud, marshes
shimmer, the shadows of clouds
through the heat...
the air, busy with voices of tradesmen
a herb and meat seller
next to the lake
like so many ants
the dwellers of the city on the hillocks
among the endless serene coolness of towers
only
shadows of a long-gone past
mid-day
fire-like heavy,
the sea dissolved in the air
clouds
only in a suggestions of storms
to come
an earthy fragrance
settling
dust
